How does CO₂ laser work on the skin?
The CO₂ laser emits infrared energy at a wavelength of 10,600 nm, which is absorbed by the water in the skin and converted into heat. This precisely vaporizes aged skin cells or abnormal tissues while stimulating collagen remodeling and regeneration. Who is NOT a suitable candidate for CO₂ laser treatment?
CO₂ laser treatment is not recommended for individuals with active skin infections, severe inflammatory skin conditions (such as eczema or psoriasis), or a history of keloid or hypertrophic scarring. Those with darker skin tones may also be at a higher risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and should consult a dermatologist before treatment. Additionally, individuals who are pregnant, taking isotretinoin (Accutane) within the past 6-12 months, or have a compromised immune system should avoid this procedure.
